Ferrysburg Community Church

One of the most intriguing people in the Bible is King David. He was a man who knew great success and great failure. Yet he was called “a man after God’s own heart.” For the remainder of the summer we will be studying the early life of David to gain a better understanding of God’s heart.

If Jesus is risen and we embrace it as truth, we should change. Things should be different. But how do we live on the other side of the resurrection? For the next few Sundays, we will discover what it means to live a new, resurrection life.

Sin.  Now there’s a word that is not neutral.  It evokes images of street corner preachers who rail against it.  It reminds us of last weekend even though we’d prefer to forget.  We enjoy it immensely and suffer from it immensely.  Like cancer, it eats away at us and threatens our very lives.  But unlike cancer, there is a cure.  For two weeks leading up to Easter, we will be looking at sin in light of its cure.

If God was only interested in our money, He would’ve set it up like the electric company – every month we would get an invoice. However, God is far more interested in our hearts and in a relationship with us. In this series we’ll take a look at why we’re so sensitive when we talk about money in church, and we’ll wrap up with a look at accountability and planned giving.

Prayer is one of the most widely practiced, but least understood activities that a person does. We pray, but often wonder whether our prayers are making any difference. Does God even hear? We'll tackle some of these questions in this series on prayer.

The Christmas season is a time of high expectations.  We anticipate shopping and gifts and time with family.  But if we’re serious about getting to the bottom of Christmas, then there are a few other things that we should expect as well.  Most of these things aren’t as benign as gifts under the tree or an apple pie.  Some of them are difficult, even painful.  Still, these things were part of Christmas when it first happened.  They belong to Christmas today also.  Come and find out what to expect this Christmas.

Jesus gave birth to an incredible movement - one that would sweep across the Roman Empire and eventually the world. It was a time full of intense fellowship, amazing miracles, and God's power. We may forget it in 2007, but that fellowship, those miracles, and God's power are just as available today as they were then. In order to experience that power, we need to reconnect with our "roots." For the next several weeks, that's what we'll be doing: reconnecting with our story in the book of Acts.

In the words of the classic Led Zeppelin song, “There are two paths you can go by.”  One of those paths is an attempt to live for yourself, to gain the American Dream, to live the high life of fun and pleasure.  The other path is the challenge to live beyond yourself, to make a difference in your corner of the world, to find real soul-satisfaction through simple acts of kindness and service.  These are the two paths.  Only one of them will lead you to what you’re after.  We’ll be exploring that path on Sundays in September and October.
