September 7: The New Lost Sheep
A new generation is reaching adulthood, a generation that has been shaped by a quickly changing world. As a result, the generation gap is growing wider than ever. How can the church share Christ's love with a new generation in ways that connect with them? Pastor Nate will describe the values and characteristics of this emerging generation and how FCC can effectively reach out to them.
September 14: Issues Facing the Nation: Christian Perspectives on Immigration
This seven session series will attempt to bring Christian perspectives on a number of issues facing our nation in this election year and well into the future. The intent of these sessions is to inform us on complex issues, not to advocate a political position. In this first session, Susan Reed, an attorney from Kalamazoo, Michigan, will address some of the concerns we face regarding immigration. Susan works for the United Methodist Committee on Relief where she has been assigned primarily to a project called “Justice for Our Neighbors.”
September 21: Issues Facing the Nation: Christian Perspectives on National Health Care
John Mulder, M.D., is vice-president of medical services of Faith Hospice of Holland Home. He will discuss the complex issue of national health care and provide some general guidelines for Christians to consider.
September 28: Issues Facing the Nation: Christian Perspectives on War and Peace
David Hoekema, a professor in the philosophy department at Calvin College, served on a recent committee appointed by our Synod to study the matter of war and peace. In today’s session, he’ll present some of the biblical teachings that were discussed by that synodical committee, teachings that should help us reflect on the matter of war and peace in this election year.
October 5: Issues Facing the Nation: Christian Perspectives on Global Climate Change
Janel Curry is a professor of geography and Dean for Research and Scholarship at Calvin College. She also holds the Byker Chair in Christian Perspectives on Political, Social, and Economic Thought.
